I’d spent the afternoon at a fascinating BBC Proms at the Roundhouse inside the Ron Arad 360 display with an excellent varied set of modern classical music, including my personal favourite Ligeti. Each piece accompanied by visual projected on the inside of the 360 installation. This was easily my favourite Prom of the season.

Afterwards I decided to stick around. In the evenings as part of the ‘Camden Beach’ installed on the Roundhouse roof there were a series of free ‘Roundhouse Rising’ gigs. Evenings of new music played in the small space next to the beach inside the Roundhouse. Luckily, it was inside, because it was pouring with rain. This unfortunately meant few people had decide to stay away so there wasn’t much of a crowd to watch the bands play.

First up was Kurt. I’m afraid they did nothing for me.

Next up was Calva Louise. This was actually the band Mystified, who I’ve seen a few times.

I’d also seen Gillbanks before. I quiet enjoyed them last time and this time was no different. I’m not sure they’re a band I would want to listen to at home. But they’re a good live band who I’d be happy to catch again.

Closing the evening were the manic Nosebleed. A heavier rock band than the rest of the bill. But a perfect way to close the evening with an energetic performance.

First up was Sunlight Service Group playing fun psychedelic music. Unfortunately I arrived late and only caught the tail end of their set, which is a pity. I really liked what I heard.

Next up were Muertos

Mystified put in another energetic set

Broken Soundtracks were next but didn’t do much for me

The Sly Persuaders were enjoyable

Closing the evening for me were the ever excellent Saint Agnes who put in another of their trademark shows.

First up Mystified, a band I’ve been hearing good things about. They have a great stage presence and a pretty heavy rock sound. They were good but I was expecting better. If I’d seen them without the recommendations I think I would have been more impressed. I’d be happy to see them again if they’re supporting somebody, but there I didn’t feel there was enough in their music to make me feel like I need to hear them multiple times.

Next up where for me the main act, Saint Agnes. Last year I found they where a band that got better and better with each gig as they honed their set. Now, they’ve perfected it, they’re a fantastic live band well worth catching.

Closing the evening were Cold In Berlin. I’d seen the. About five years ago but honestly couldn’t remember much about them. They have a heavy goth rock sound. The lead singer holding it together making it interesting through her expressive performance.
