Public Service Broadcasting at Rough Trade
I’d only got the album the day before and on first listen it’s very good and in some places excellent. Managing to take key points in the space race and add interesting music, However, it seems lacks any real ‘crowd pleasers’. So I was interested to see what they’d do tonight.
Tonight’s gig in some way confirmed this. Some of the songs are quiet low key and will require audiences to show the music the same level of respect as PSB have shown these key events in the Space Race when composing the music. Luckily, the early evening Rough Trade gigs tend to be the most dedicated fans and early enough in the evening so that no one is drunk. But that’s not to say that tonight’s gig didn’t key lively. They still played songs such as Spitfire and Everest.
I’m seeing them again on Thursday at the National Space Centre. Hopefully they’ll play the album in full and in sequential order. It’s definitely an interesting album about an interesting subject. So it should be good. As long as the crowd show the appropriate level of respect.
